Even tough I know that whatever mini-triathlon I will eventually run in is still months, even years, into the future, I'm already second-guessing myself.  It's daunting, almost fantastical for me.   Then I hear stories about people who  face insurmountable challenges and overcome them.  These stories inspire me - I run a little longer on the treadmill, I go for that extra set with the weights, I whine a little less though the chlorine from the pool scratches the back of my throat.
